New Distribution Center Plans Unveiled Today

November 12, 2008 by Danny Sillivant · Leave a Comment

ORANGEBURG — Dubai-based Jafza International will give business leaders a look at its plan for a $600 million, 1,300-acre distribution center and manufacturing park in Orangeburg County.

The company will make its presentation Wednesday during an economic development summit in Orangeburg.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn will speak at the meeting, which will include information on business opportunities expected to come with Jafza’s investment. The company has said 8,000 people are expected to work at the site about 50 miles southeast of Columbia.

Jafza is a sister company of Dubai-owned DP World, which won federal approval in 2006 to run six major U.S. ports before the deal fell through because of congressional objections.
